A Scoot plane headed for Hat Yai, Thailand, was forced to return to Singapore mid-flight after an alleged bomb threat was made on board by a passenger.
According to the police, flight TR634 safely landed in Changi Airport after being escorted back by two Republic of Singapore Air Force fighter jets. The plane had left the airport at 1:20pm and landed back here at 3:23pm, where police officers are currently conducting checks.
In a statement, the budget carrier said it was working closely with the authorities for “necessary follow-up to ensure the safety of our guests”. Around 5:10pm, the police confirmed that all passengers and crew on the flight disembarked safely, while the passenger accused of making the bomb threat was detained alongside his two companions. Nothing incriminating was found on the plane or the belongings of the trio.
By 6:30pm, a 41-year-old man was arrested for making a false bomb threat — an offence that could land him in jail for five years and/or a fine of up to $100,000.
