16 cases of fire caused by Chinese New Year spring-cleaning reported in two weeks

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has in the last two weeks attended to 16 cases of fire caused by improper disposal of rubbish, believed to derive from Lunar New Year spring-cleaning.

SCDF has put out a reminder that there are designated areas for huge disposals of waste at void-decks and that town councils also provide a bulky item removals service.

Efforts are in place to deal with the issue — Tampines Town Council has already issued 50 warning letters to residents who did not properly dispose their bulky items.

MP for Tampines GRC Baey Yam Keng posted a related status on his Facebook page,  reminding households doing spring-cleaning to take care when disposing their waste and not just leave them lying around at lift lobbies or corridors. He added that the free removal service by the Town Council is available all year round.
