61-year-old Gan Juay Kiat, chief executive officer of transportation company SBS Transit, has tendered his resignation which will take into effect on March 27, according to a circular issued on Friday via the Singapore Exchange website.

The circular submitted by SBS Transit joint company secretary Wendy Chan is scant with details; when asked if there is “any matter in relation to the cessation that needs to be brought to the attention of the shareholders”, the circular’s answer was a simple “No”.

In the circular, it was mentioned that Gan had resigned due to “personal reasons”.

It was later discovered that Gan had resigned over a “personal indiscretion”, according to a report by The Straits Times.

Channel NewsAsia reported that Gan had shown “lapses in conduct” and the company’s chairman Lim Jit Poh said that Gan “expressed deep regret over his actions”.

“He has accepted full responsibility for his lapses in conduct, and the board has accepted his resignation,” said Lim to The Business Times. “We have lost a good CEO who has done much for land transport in Singapore.”

In contention are allegations posted by a private investigator company on their Instagram page that Gan allegedly had multiple extramarital affairs with “subordinates” and “married women”.

Although a video was posted reportedly featuring Gan and the women, the subjects of the video were mosaiced and their identities could not be independently verified.

According to the page, which is run by private investigator company Kokusai Security, the alleged affairs reportedly happened during office hours, on the weekends and while he was overseas.

Gan holds 30,000 Deemed Interest shares and 150,000 share options with SBS Transit, according to the Singapore exchange filing.

According to the filing, he was first appointed to his position with SBS in March 2010.

This is not the first time public officials have resigned amid rumors of extramarital affairs; in 2016, Bukit Batok Member of Parliament (MP) David Ong resigned, citing “personal reasons”.

In January 2012, MP for Hougang Yaw Shin Leong resigned from The Workers’ Party because of a rumored extramarital affair. In December the same year, MP Michael Palmer resigned for the same reason.
