SBS Transit applies for bus and rail fare hike

SBS Transit has filed an application with the Public Transport Council (PTC) to raise its bus and rail fares.

The transport operator, which operates around 200 bus services and the North-East Line (NEL) rail service, said in a statement that it continues to face significant cost pressures even though there is an increase in efforts to lower costs and increase productivity.

More announcements will be made by PTC in the first quarter of 2014.

Earlier on, PTC announced that the fares for the new Downtown Line 1 (DTL1) will be the same as SBS’ NEL rail service. The DLT1 is currently free for all commuters till Jan. 1, 2014.
