It was a small fire that first broke out in the storeroom of Samsung’s AMK Hub outlet at 1.25am today. Fortunately, the flames were not granted the chance to spread as they were extinguished “within minutes”. Doubly fortunate that there was no one around the immediate vicinity when the incident happened, too.

Samsung does have a track record of having gadgets that catch fire, after all — but nothing’s confirmed for now.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at approximately 1.25am, and deployed a total of two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, and five support vehicles to the scene. A lone SCDF water jet along with the mall’s sprinklers successfully put out the fire.

However, the aftermath forced the mall management to cordon off stores within the immediate vicinity of the Samsung outlet for “safety reasons and for cleaning”, as stated by AMK Hub general manager Andy Kau.

“We will be working with the few affected tenants to assist them in resuming their business operations as soon as possible,” he added.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing.
