Two full-time national servicemen (NSFs) from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) landed themselves in the throes of internet praise for doing their jobs — helping people in need, in the spirit of civic-mindedness.
Second Lieutenant Tan Hae San and Lance Corporal Chung Jing Kai were on their way back to Khatib Camp after their exercise last Saturday night (Aug 12) when they witnessed an accident along Mandai Road. A motorcyclist had gotten seriously injured in the accident and was struggling to maintain consciousness, and it was thanks to the efforts of the two NSFs and fellow motorists that the victim managed to stay safe until paramedics arrived at the scene.
SAF caught wind of the viral Facebook post and officially commended the two servicemen for “being ready to step forward when required”.
LCP Chung, a combat medic, admitted in a follow-up comment that he didn’t really do much “due to limited equipment and trained personnel” during the incident. Nonetheless, he and his colleague rendered assistance despite it all, and that’s good enough.
