Rui En intends to plead guilty after getting charged for inconsiderate driving

Months after folks moved on from the saga of Rui En vs The World, the case has emerged once again — and this time it’ll play out in court.

The Mediacorp TV actress garnered some heat and infamy earlier in April when she was seen knocking down a stationary motorbike at a carpark in Clementi and seemingly tried to drive away. Her alleged escape was thwarted by the motorbike owner himself, who chased after the black BMW and knocked on its doors.

Court documents reveal the same details, according to a Channel NewsAsia report. She has been accused of failing to control her BMW when driving into the carpark — the car mounted the kerb and collided head-on into a parked motorcycle.

She does plan to plead guilty to her single charge of inconsiderate driving come Jul 1. Initial reports of her being drunk-driving may not be true then, considering she wasn’t charged for the offence.

What people took issue with her in the incident was how she had allegedly acted like a typical self-entitled celebrity — backed up by her ‘ice queen’ reputation in the industry. According to the dude who got his bike smashed, she yelled out “Do you know who I am?” before simply trying to compensate him with $2,000. The offer was rejected.

Rui En however clarified that it was not so, claiming that she actually said “Do you know who I am, I live upstairs and won’t run”, as well as other explanations. “Looking back I wished I handled the situation with more tact,” she wrote.

In any case, the recent All-Time Favourite Artiste winner now faces up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000 if convicted for driving without due care and attention. This probably won’t even cause a dent in her career, considering that she’s a household name and all.
