Roy Ngerng’s call for Singaporeans to ‘stand’ with him removed from Facebook

Until minutes ago, Roy Ngerng was rallying motivational support from Singaporeans as he prepared to ‘meet’ Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in court over a case of defamation.

In a Facebook post uploaded a day after the blogger’s $5,000 offer of compensation was rejected, Ngerng voiced his confusion over the PM’s sudden interest in his website The Heart Truths, on which he has posted numerous articles referring to the Central Provident Fund (CPF).

“I have written more than 10 articles on the CPF and 400 other articles over the past 2 years. This is the first time that the prime minister (sic) had taken issue with any of the articles.”

Ngerng also explained in detail why he has chosen to speak blatantly on the CPF. An excerpt:

“I want to raise more awareness about what’s going on in Singapore, and how the lives of Singaporeans can be improved. How can our people earn higher wages and be able to live lives with dignity, with security and at ease, knowing that we can access healthcare, education and retirement?

CPF is also an issue close to my heart, because it’s simply not right when our older Singaporeans have spent a large part of their lives working to build Singapore to where it is today, only to have to continue working as cleaners, labourers or cardboard collectors, just because they could never save enough in their CPF to retire. It’s saddening that this has to happen, especially so when Singapore is now one of the richest countries in the world.”

After predicting the near future to be “a long and tedious journey” that can be overcome with the “strength and solidarity of all Singaporeans, working hand in hand”, Ngerng finished the post with a heartfelt “please stand with me”.

The post has since been removed.
