Last Friday, more than 20 electric scooter and electric bicycle riders were caught defying road rules with offences such as speeding and using non-compliant devices. Conducting one of the largest enforcement operations in Punggol Town, over 60 plain clothes officers, including those from the Singapore Police Force and National Parks Board, nabbed the individuals for their errant ways.

Eleven devices were impounded as well. One weighed nearly 60kg, which was almost three times over the weight limit.

“We will not tolerate those who disregard public safety and have been ramping up our enforcement efforts,” said the Land Transport Authority in a Facebook post.

From May 1 last year to April 30 this year, 3,700 active mobility offences have been detected. About 20 percent involved speeding, reckless riding, and the use of personal mobility devices on roads, while 50 percent were related to device non-compliance, and power-assisted bicycle offences made up the remainder.

If you’re unsure of the rules, you can always read up on the code of conduct for the Active Mobility Act before hitting the roads.
