The newly opened Rifle Range Nature Park is another to add to the pretty parks list.
Part of the Central Nature Park Network, the park serves as one of the green buffers for Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
Located along Rifle Range Road, the park is also the site of the former Sin Seng Quarry, which ceased operations in 1998. The area covers approximately the size of 123 football fields and visitors can embark on more than 7 km of trails and boardwalks – each offering a different experience.
If you think it was built from scratch, you’re wrong – the nature reserve has always been there and was only “sensitively enhanced” to showcase the best of the landscape and biodiversity to make it accessible to visitors. On top of a rich variety of plants and flowers, over 300 species of wildlife have been recorded here including the Malayan colugo, Sunda pangolin and leopard cat.
The main highlight of the park is the quarry and you can get up close to the water’s edge on the Quarry Wetland trail. For a bird’s eye view of the park and its surroundings, climb up to the 31 meter-tall Colugo Deck.
Children – and adults – will love the Forest Exploration Trail which will encourage curious ones to play on stepping stumps and rock boulders. And if you like rustic trails, the Banyan and Gaharu trails will take you into the forest and crossing streams.
It’s not all just for the humans. When walking around the nature reserve, pay attention to colugo poles and rope bridges which have been installed for the wildlife in the park.
The park is easily accessible from the Rail Corridor and even Beauty World MRT station itself where there is a boardwalk that leads to the reserve on the 4th floor.
