Rich Kids Of Singapore Instagram account pops up; surprisingly does nothing to solve world hunger

The self-indulgent phenomenon known to all as #RKOI — Rich Kids Of Instagram — has spawned various offshoots including a novel, a dog version, Eastern European parodies and various city-specific spin-offs. In a country like ours, with one of the largest proportion of millionaires in the world, it’s a little surprising that Rich Kids Of Singapore Instagram account only popped up a couple of weeks ago.

These very modest sons and daughters of tycoons humbly flaunt the heart-rending issues of top 1 percent of Singapore, including problems such as “Which gold plated bedroom slipper should I wear today?”, “Which one of my ten sportscars should I drive out tonight” and the perennial classic “How much money should I ask from my dad this month?”.

Obvious choices for those nominated on the #RKOS rich-list include Kim Lim, daughter of tycoon Peter Lim; handbag connoisseur Jamie Chua and young fashion entrepreneur Kane Lim.

Though to be fair, the rich kids featured on the Instagram aren’t that opulent in their display of wealth as compared to their international counterparts, like that dude who tied up $4,000 in cash to a bunch of helium balloons and let them float away.
