Chinese restaurant Tim Palace, located at Safra Toa Payoh, has been ordered by the National Environment Agency (NEA) to suspend operations for two weeks. The reason? It’s got a rodent infestation problem, and it’s been selling expired pre-packed food to patrons.

The restaurant will be suspended from Monday (June 5) to June 18. It had chalked up 14 demerit points over the last year and was fined $1,000 for the offences of failure to keep its premises clean (four demerit points) and free of rodent infestation (six demerit points), and selling expired pre-packed food (four demerit points).

Any licensee who has 12 or more demerit points in a year can have their license suspended for two or four weeks, or cancelled, according to the NEA. Food handlers working at the restaurant have to attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course before they can go back to work.

On the Facebook page of Tim Palace, the restaurant notified diners of its closure and explained that the reasons behind it were for renovation and maintenance.
