Just launched this month, MyRent is the new on-demand, peer-to-peer rental marketplace in Singapore. Founded by a trio who’ve worked in Southeast Asian tech companies like Paktor and iPrice, the platform had its beta launch in December, scoring over 2,000 registered users and more than 800 active listings since then. Items include everything from photography gadgets and gaming devices to sports wares and clothes.
Ishwar Dhanuka, CEO and co-founder of MyRent, said: “The idea behind MyRent is to primarily allow users to own experiences instead of things. We want to decentralize ownership, and create a win-win for both listers and renters.”
“Simply put, why buy something when you can rent it?” he added.
Available online and via an app available for both iOS and Android users, MyRent works on the premise that one-off users will benefit from loaning items for a small daily, weekly, or monthly fee instead of spending a couple hundred dollars to purchase these goods, especially when it comes to pricey tech gadgets.
Apparently, a Nintendo Switch can be rented for as low as S$8/day, while a DJI Spark Drone can be yours for S$6/day. A quick browse through the site surfaced mostly drones, photography equipment, and gaming accessories, although you could also get random products like a Captain Marvel comic ($1/day), a guitar ($8/day), fairy lights ($2/day), fire extinguishers ($20/day), an LTA-approved e-scooter ($4/day), crutches ($3/day), winter wear ($5/day), and even a transport lorry to help with moving bulky possessions ($80/day).
