Relentless mynah troubles in Yishun and Clementi force AVA to deploy tree foggers

Apparently, our yellow-beaked black-feathered friends have been such a nuisance to the municipalities of Yishun and Clementi that the Agri-Food an Veterinary Authority (AVA) are employing drastic measures.

Residents in Yishun have been complaining to the authorities about the vexing noise produced by the mynah population, Channel NewsAsia reports.  Presumably, complaints continue to come in hot and heavy, as past efforts by AVA and Nee Soon Town Council haven’t done enough — namely pruning trees and limiting food sources.

In the next step of their mynah-shooing campaign, AVA will be fogging trees with a special chemical for five days every two months. The chemical is said to cause temporary irritation to the mynahs, and should deter them from returning. AVA assures that the fog is a sensory repellent and will not harm the birds.

The fogging has already already started in Yishun, and will kick off in Clementi next month. The measure however is not considered a long-term solution for Nee Soon GRC MP Louis Ng, who believes that the root of the problem is the fact that people just can’t stop feeding the damn birds.
