Last month we reported that two self-radicalised teenagers aged 17 and 19 were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for terrorism-related activities.
Reports now confirm that the younger of them has been released and placed on a Restriction Order for two years beginning this month — with conditions described by the Ministry of Home Affairs as “a balance between rehabilitation and preserving public security”.
According to MHA, the Singaporean youth “had wanted to engage in armed violence alongside the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and had started making preparations to carry out his plans.”
He was influenced by videos, websites and social media materials.
Conditions of his release include attending religious counselling and that he stop accessing violent or extremist online material. He must also not issue public statements, or leave the country without permission.
There are no reports about other arrested teenager.
