Redditor explains why we sometimes get 3 chopsticks in a packet (and why we sometimes get only 1)

As much as we hate lifting #content from Reddit, this one was too fascinating to pass over. The mildly interesting occurrence of getting three chopsticks bundled together (yes, you’ve probably faced this before) actually has a really interesting backstory.

In a thread started by someone who received three disposable bamboo chopsticks in one pack, Redditor u/arksenewbie offered an explanation for the trivial bother — all thanks to an uncle who once worked at a factory that manufactures them. The reason why some plastic bundles get three sticks instead of two is due to bugs in the sensor, and the fact that it’s just simpler to let sealing machines store an extra piece.

But how about those even rarer occasions with packs that only have a single chopstick? Sensor issues again.

The more you know.
