More than S$700,000 (US$516,485) worth of illegal sexual enhancement drugs (SEDs) were seized from a residential unit of a private apartment block in Geylang on Friday. Supported by the Singapore Police Force, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) uncovered the massive haul of about 300,000 units of assorted illegal SEDs. It’s the largest seizure in five years (that’s what she said).

Though the official report didn’t mention the exact SEDs, popular ones that still make rounds here include the likes of Africa Black Ant capsules, Power 1 Walnut tablets, Lang Yi Hao tablets and other oddly-named pills. All of which are illegal of course, and should never be popped at all — there have been several cases of users lapsing into comas.

After receiving an alert from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority about a parcel believed to contain a large amount of illegal health products, HSA apprehended the intended recipient, a 26-year-old Chinese man, outside a private residential apartment in Lorong 32 Geylang. Then man brought HSA officers to his rented room in the building, where another man was found along with the illegal items.

Both men are currently assisting with investigations on the import of these products.

In a media release, HSA stated that it takes a “serious stand against illegal activities that would harm public health.” Anyone who imports and/or supplies illegal health products is liable to prosecution; if convicted, the person could face a prison sentence of up to three years and/or be fined up to S$100,000 (US$73,783).
