A suspect put a drug enforcement officer’s life in danger after he climbed out of the window to evade a drug bust recently.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) today said they arrested six Singaporeans, aged between 23 and 30, for suspected drug offenses in two drug operations on Monday.
According to CNB, they confiscated an estimated total of S$158,500 worth of drugs including five ecstasy tablets; 437 grams of ice and 1,322 grams of heroin.
The first operation happened on Monday morning when the police found about 997 grams of heroin in a van around Kaki Bukit Ave 3. The driver had fled after crashing into a lamppost.
That evening, CNB officers arrested the 28-year-old male for drug trafficking in a Bedok North Road flat. A 26-year-old pregnant woman, whose nine-month-old baby was with her in the flat, was also arrested for drug consumption. The baby has been placed in the custody of the next of kin.
On the same evening concurrently, CNB officers also raided another Bedok North Road flat and arrested three men aged 23, 25 and 30, and a 28-year-old woman for suspected drug trafficking offenses.
The 25-year-old man had climbed out the bedroom window of the ninth-floor flat and was pulled back to safety by officers after the man lost his footing. A CNB officer suffered deep lacerations to his right hand as a result and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
CNB said the suspects had put their officers in grave danger during the operations.
“In one of the operations on 20 March, a suspected drug offender had total disregard of his own safety and that of others while attempting to evade arrest. This turned into a life and death situation when our officer, who was arresting the suspect, had to hold on to the suspect when the latter lost his footing. Our officers have to make split second decisions during operations, even placing themselves in great danger to ensure the safe arrest of suspects,” CNB officer William Tan said.
If found guilty of trafficking more than 15 grams of pure heroin or 250 grams of methamphetamine, the suspects would face a mandatory death penalty sentence under Singapore’s strict drug laws.
