The humpday blues were spirited away today when the country woke up to seeing a real life K-drama unfold, featuring none other than Singapore’s premier family: The Lees.
It’s a case of a very public airing of internal family disputes that seemed to have been brewing for quite some time among the children of late founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. Current prime minister Lee Hsien Loong basically got publicly condemned by his own siblings over a long-running tiff about the fate of their father’s iconic house at 38 Oxley Road.
Younger siblings Dr Lee Weiliang and Lee Hsien Yang want the house to be demolished (as per their dad’s explicit wish in his will), while PM Lee is accused of abusing his power to stop it from happening (because he wants to inherit it for political purposes, apparently). The dispute has gotten so bad that Hsien Yang is already making solid plans to emigrate out of fear of their brother’s alleged “abuse of power”.
Reactions by netizens have varied from ridicule to serious analyses, but all point out that things are definitely not all fine and dandy between the prime minister and his family. The poor man is even getting the brunt of it all during his family holiday, so that makes it all even tragic (or hilarious, depending on your stance). Here we’ve compiled a list noteworthy posts regarding the family feud, because really, nothing else is taking precedent over PM Lee’s troubles today. Send us links to more of ’em if you see ’em!

I don’t get this fascination over 38 Oxley Road. I’ve never even seen it in real life
