Say what you will about local tech tycoon Min-Liang Tan, but he sure knows how to turn heads. The Singaporean lawyer-turned-CEO of gaming gizmo company Razer is no stranger to unusual ideas like modular plug-and-play computers and er… mugs and coasters. That’s not even counting the fake April Fools’ products like wearable drone systems, toasters, and a hovering mouse.
But this ain’t no April Fools’ prank, son — this is real life. Behold, Razer’s wildly impractical — yet awe-inspiring — Project Valerie, a gaming laptop that has three 4K-res monitors. Think of all the super wide MS Word documents you can write.

Unveiled yesterday at this year’s edition of tech tradeshow CES in Las Vegas, it’s the world’s first automated triple display (each measuring 17.3 inches) laptop with a combined resolution of 11520×2160, with enough power under the hood (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card with 8 GB of video RAM, 32 gigs of system RAM, etc) to run high-end games and VR as well. As you can imagine, it’s hella thick and hella heavy too — so it might as well have a permanent spot on your desk.

To be fair, the multi-monitor behemoth is just a concept design for now, with no confirmed plans to get it into production. Tan explains why this gaming monstrosity exists:
Multi-monitor desktop set-ups are becoming more necessary for professionals, creators, and gamers,” he enthused. “For the first time, we’ve engineered a solution that users can take with them. Project Valerie promises all of the functionality of three screens and none of the hassle.”
We’re not too sure of the part about “none of the hassle” though. Sure, it’s awesome as hell to be playing a super-immersive 180-degree sesh of Battlefield 1 from a laptop — but as PC Mag noted, the whole system gets extremely hot to touch, and Wired gave the laptop battery approximately 14 seconds before pooping out if it ran unplugged. Not to mention the foreseeably astronomical price tag on this thing.
