A woman who had been posting videos of herself hurling racist insults at people she claimed were harassing her has been fired from her job and removed from YouTube.
YouTube said this morning it had terminated Beow Tan’s channel for violating the platform’s harassment and cyberbullying policies, while realtor Knight Frank said last night that it had terminated her employment, citing its zero tolerance for hate speech and racism.
“We have strict policies that prohibit harassment on YouTube, including content that maliciously insults someone based on their race, gender expression, or sexual orientation. We quickly remove content that violates these policies when flagged,” YouTube said in a statement today.
This comes after the police said yesterday they had been looking into the videos which sparked an uproar since last week, when one of her victims recorded her harassing them and other individuals on a train. On her YouTube channel, she had posted dozens of similar videos going back five years.
KF Property Network, where the woman had been registered as a salesperson as Tan Beow Hiong Catherine, thanked the public for its input.
A contact number listed for Tan went unanswered Wednesday morning.
