The Race Must Go On: F1 Grand Prix to continue this weekend despite hazy outlook

Despite growing concern about the heavy-duty haze conditions blanketing the island, Singapore GP has made it crystal clear that the race this weekend will go on, whether you like it or not.

The race promoters however have put in place a couple of measures to prep up for a hazy Formula 1 event, including the sale of N95 face masks to patrons at cost price throughout the Circuit Park as well as 24 medical and first aid posts on standby to tackle any potential haze-related conditions. Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings will also be displayed on the giant screens along the circuit so attendees can even decide if they want to stay or leave (just stay, you’ve paid for the tickets anyway).

According to National Environmental Agency officials, the haze is unlikely to up and leave that soon due to dry weather conditions — but may improve on Friday or Saturday when wind patterns are expected to change.

This would hark back to last year’s similarly high-speed, heavy haze grand prix, where the three-hour PSI Index surged up to 129 during the race. Singapore GP officials speaking to The Straits Times however have assured that as long as PSI levels don’t hit the 201-300 range, the race will go on no matter what. We bid good luck to the drivers racing the smoggy Marina Bay circuit this weekend.
