Pulau Ubin to build new coastal boardwalk after shoreline restoration works complete

Shoreline restoration works at Pulau Ubin are slated to begin in 2017, and once they’re complete, a new coastal boardwalk will be built. According to Senior Minister of State for National Development Desmond Lee, NParks started feasibility studies in mid-2015, and the major undertaking of restoring the island’s shoreline will take place on two beaches: Noordin and Mamam Beach. The coastal boardwalk is set to follow thereafter — extending into the sea in the north of Ubin — to offer visitors views of the sea and the coastal forests.

As for the flora and fauna of the island, efforts have been taken to protect critically endangered species unique to Ubin, such as the Oriental Small-clawed Otter. New dens have been constructed to monitor their behaviour. And as part of NParks Orchid Conservation Programme, 800 orchids from 15 different species are being reintroduced across the land.

Look out for more activities highlighting the biodiversity of the island on Ubin Day on June 4.
