Prominent animal welfare activist successfully recovers his car after it got stolen in JB

Just weeks after prominent animal welfare activist Derrick Tan bought his silver Toyota Mark X, his new ride got pinched in Johor Baru on Monday evening.

The Voices for Animals founder had been enjoying a massage with friends in Jalan Serampang at around 8.15pm with the car parked a little further away from the reflexology. Two hours later, Tan and his friends returned to the parking spot with no car in sight.

In an earlier Facebook post he made, he stated that his passport, personal belongings and wallet had been left behind in the car. Tan had to cancel his credit card after getting notified that transactions were made, according to The Straits Times

Malaysian police weren’t surprised to know that Tan’s stolen car was a Toyota Mark X — they noted that thefts of the model was common as its parts are easy to sell. Car thieves also have a device that can quickly unlock and disarm sirens on Toyotas and Hondas.

All turned out relatively well however. Tan managed to retrieve his car yesterday and safely returned back home, though his belongings inside were cleared out.
