Steady introduction of programming classes to boost economy starting this year

Students will soon be able to learn how to code as programming classes are progressively introduced in public schools within the next few months.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) says it hopes this will help boost Singapore’s economy, according to local news broadcast Good Morning Singapore.

It is not yet certain how the new classes will be rolled out and distinguish from topics that already exist in the schools’ alternative curriculum.

Besides schools, private education providers are also jumping on the bandwagon to offer programming workshops for students.

Speaking to Good Morning Singapore, Kore Infotech — a provider of IT training — notes how parents are becoming more aware of the value of technical competency in this generation and the number of kids signing up for programming classes to instil in them a technical foundation, has increased over the last two years.
