Just as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong returned from a very enlightening trip to the United States (meeting up with Silicon Valley bigwigs and President Obama), a surprise awaited him back home — over 1 million likes on his Facebook page.
Guess people really love his dad-jokes and the unoffending, politically correct banter. Great job to his social media team for making him the most popular Singaporean politician on social media ever.
Too bad that he wasn’t the first Singaporean personality to surpass the 1 million mark though. Veteran actress and entertainer Jeanette Aw reached that benchmark and surpassed it even further way before PM Lee made it cool.
Meanwhile, neighbouring national leaders have already gone past that figure. Malaysian PM Najib Razak has nearly 3 million Likes, Indonesian president Joko Widodo has over 6 million Likes, while Filipino president Benigno S. Aquino III has over 4 million.
