Watch out, telcos, MyRepublic is gunning for a place beside the big three.
Yesterday, they released two mobile plans for the public — a 2GB plan for $8/month (with $8/extra GB) and an unlimited data plan for $80/month.
Existing broadband customers get even better deals — a 2GB plan for $6/month or unlimited data for $60/month.
Wait, hold up, it sounds too good to be true, right? Well, there’s a slight catch. It’s a data-only network, which means no talk time or text messages, but you can use Skype or Whatsapp to make calls, and incoming SMSes will be free.
If you’re tempted to make the switch, Singtel wants you to know they’re thinking of you, too.
Just hours after the MyRepublic announcement yesterday, Singtel revealed its new add-on DataX2 plan, set to launch today. Now you can double your data plan for just $5.90 per month (meaning you can go from 3GB to 6GB just like that).
M1 has also reacted “positively” to the news. New and recontracting customers can now get up to an extra 12GB/month by adding $5.90.
And look who’s (slightly) late to the party — StarHub is angling for a piece of the action, too. According to The Straits Times, they’re wooing customers with a promo rate of $3/month for an additional 3GB of mobile data. But the offer only lasts till the end of the month, and will go up to $6/month come April.
