President-elect Halimah Yacob gets her own Twitter emoji (for a limited time only)

Much has been said about President-elect Halimah Yacob (and not all good), but one can’t deny that she’ll make history for Singapore as the nation’s first female head-of-state, no matter how she got there or how inconsequential the role may be.

Here’s another way she’s already making history: by being the first female president in the world to have her own Twitter emoji. The social media giant launched the emoji — bearing her likeness with a tudung and glasses — as part of it celebrating the president-elect, who’ll be officially sworn in to office this evening at the Istana.

Already, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long has used the emoji in a tweet congratulating Halimah.

The emoji will be available until Oct 1 but only in tweets that include hashtags like #HalimahYacob, #MdmPresident, and #SingaporePE2017. For obvious reasons, it won’t appear on the trending #NotMyPresident sentiments in Singapore.
