The power went out for over half an hour across parts of the CBD

Our office in the Keong Saik Road vicinity certainly wasn’t affected, but it seems like a massive blackout hit the central business district, leaving thousands of offices, retail stores, and restaurants without electrical power for about 34 minutes. Even the traffic lights went out.

In a statement issued following the blackout, Singapore Power (SP) stated that 3,156 customers in parts of Raffles Quay, Robinson Road and Shenton Way were affected by a disruption to electricity supply around 2:40pm. SP officers were immediately deployed to the affected areas and managed to fully restore power within 34 minutes.

Those 34 minutes made for a slight scare for those working in high-rise office spaces — especially those who were in elevators when the power went out. The luckier ones who weren’t stranded in lifts had the opportunity to explore the stairwells and walk down dozens of floors.

Others took the chance to go for a post-lunch tea break. As you do.

We don’t know about you guys, but the blackout could be yet another indication of an incoming Kaiju attack — the huge crack that appeared on Adam Road this morning was the first sign.
