Political activist M Ravi accuses Law Minister of adultery and sexual misconduct; hell soon to follow

Another potential popcorn-worthy political saga is set to unfold on Facebook, and it’s going to be a doozy: Prominent activist M Ravi has accused the law minister of (gasp!) sexual misconduct and having an extramarital affair.

Just a day after Minister of Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam asserted his strong stance against fake news and misinformation online, a colossal accusation was lodged against his character without evidence. M Ravi — the lawyer barred from practising for two years after being convicted for misconduct in 2016 — will probably have to face a hell of a fallout if he’s not able to back up his allegations.

Calling Shanmugam an “unlawful law minister”, Ravi plans to take out an application to declare that the law minister is in breach of his code of conduct — a breach of ethics “arising from sexual misconduct and adultery”. Again, we have to point out that it’s a rather ginormous claim against an actual minister. After all, this is the man who’s made firm rebukes against slighter remarks.

Welp, time to lawyer up, we say.

The frankly ridiculous allegation is not helped at all by Ravi’s, er, manners in the comments section.

The activist even seems desperate in obtaining funds for his planned undertaking.

Though Ravi’s sudden accusation may look like a laughable attempt to defame the law minister, it’s not the first time that accusations of adultery have been thrown at Shanmugam. In 2012, an anonymous netizen by the moniker of Scroobal accused the minister of improper conduct with a Member of Parliament. This prompted Shanmugam to take action by sending a lawyer’s letter to the blog, demanding its administrator remove Scroobal’s “false and scurrilous” allegations. Other political blogs have also accused the minister of being a womanizer, but none have provided any evidence.

In any case, the law minister already has his hands full with actual government business, and that includes the ongoings of the Lee family saga, which will continue to play out in parliament on July 3. Shanmugam has yet to issue a response to Ravi, but when it does arrive, we imagine it’ll be filled with wrath.
