Policeman Iskandar found guilty of murder, sentenced to death

A High Court judge has convicted a 36-year-old policeman of murder with intention to kill and gave him the death penalty.

The judge rejected Iskandar Rahmat’s claim that it was self-defence that led him to kill a 67-year-old man and his 42-year-old son in July 2013.

According to reports, Iskandar has been a model policeman prior to the incident. He was debt-laden and had only planned to rob car workshop owner Tan Boon Sin, but he ended up stabbing and slashing the victim who he claimed attacked him first with a knife. Chee Heong, Tan’s son, “was collateral damage” according to the judge.

Iskandar had maintained that Tan attacked him first with a knife and he stabbed and slashed the victim in self-defence.
