A rampaging wild boar was shot yesterday evening, after police officers were notified at 7:08pm of an accident involving the animal and a car on Punggol West Flyover.
When officers and personnel from wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) arrived at the scene, the injured wild boar was lying on the road. But it later got up and charged towards officers and bystanders, ignoring the police as they fired tasers at it.
As the tusked animal was endangering public safety, an officer was forced to fire a shot at it to stop it from rampaging. The 1.5m creature was shot in the neck, handed over to Acres personnel, and subsequently euthanized.
No human injuries were reported.
Prior to this incident, a man was attacked just last month by a wild boar outside a condominium at Hillview Avenue. In September, a motorcyclist and his pillion rider were hospitalized after the appearance of a wild boar caused an accident on the Ayer Rajah Expressway.
