Last year, a full-time police national serviceman was caught for being a sneaky Peeping Tom. The crime was committed at Tanglin police divisional headquarters (very ballsy, indeed) on Jan 26 while he was on night duty. Abdul Qayyum Mohd Hashim, 20, made up an excuse to go to the toilet and had a colleague cover for him, so he could secretly ‘investigate’ the CCTV footage he saw of a female officer in the locker room.
He was apparently ‘interested’ in the 21-year-old — even more so when she walked out in a towel and headed for the showers — and decided to follow her. After snapping photos of her naked, he snatched her bra and stashed it in his bag in the male locker room.
Not cool, dude. Not cool at all.
A police report was filed when the lady noticed her bra missing, and three days later, Qayyum was instructed by his supervisor to stay back after a briefing. Feeling a little suspicious (and probably paranoid about being exposed), Qayyum quickly deleted the sordid evidence from his phone. But the pictures were swiftly recovered, thanks to officers from the Technology Crime Forensic Branch.
All in all, he had stored up six photos of three policewomen showering, and some were taken a few days before this incident. Let’s not go into detail what he was up to with those images.
According to The Straits Times, yesterday Qayyum was sentenced to nine months’ jail, admitting to three out of the 11 charges he faced, which included criminal trespass and theft. He could have been imprisoned for up to seven years and fined for perverting the course of justice, but he pleaded for leniency and expressed regret at his actions. District Judge Lim Keng Yeow also took into consideration his first-time offence and his young age.
