A teenage driver was arrested today on suspicion of crashing a BMW on the Tampines Expressway and fleeing the scene – including his passenger.

The police said in media reports today they arrested the unidentified 18-year-old, who did not possess a driver’s license, two days after he rammed a road divider while near Punggol and heading toward Tampines on Saturday morning. Police said the teen was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and is also being investigated for driving without a license, car insurance, or consent from the vehicle’s owner.

The driver was filmed beating feet in footage of the incident shared on social media. Left in the car was a 21-year-old passenger The Straits Times says was taken to the hospital.

Dashcam footage showed what was said to be the same car weaving at high speed through other vehicles with a traffic police motorcycle in pursuit. An image taken after the pursuit ended in a crash showed the blue BMW’s crushed door and roof, and a passenger apparently trapped inside.

Driving without a license is punishable by up to six years in jail and a S$20,000 (US$26,600) fine.
