The driver of a Mercedes-Benz is being investigated after he was caught on dashcam knocking down a female pedestrian as she was crossing the road at a traffic junction.

The incident itself was said to have happened around 11:50am at North Buona Vista Road last Friday (Jul 28), and the footage that was uploaded on social media went viral. The clip shows a young woman crossing the street after the lights turned green in her favor — but the Mercedes-Benz seemed to speed up to beat oncoming traffic, and it collided straight into the pedestrian.

The woman was seen getting back on her feet, collecting her belongings and moving off the road, where a man in green — possibly the owner of the dashcam — attended to her. Off screen, the Mercedes driver is presumed to have stopped by the side of the road, since the video uploader managed to snap a picture of the man.

According to the Facebook post, the driver’s statement to the police claimed the girl dashed across the road and tripped and fell, but footage clearly showed the driver failing to notice the pedestrian crossing the road. The post also added that he refused to exchange particulars even though he was involved in an accident that caused injury to a person.

Some netizens have speculated that she was using her phone while crossing, but the post was updated to clarify that she was holding a cup of coffee in her hand. Either way, it definitely does not clear the Mercedes driver of any wrongdoing.
