Police identify Commonwealth molester with help of recorded footage

A 26-year-old molester was arrested at 8:10pm on Sept. 27 — within 10 hours of the crime — after police established his identity using Police Cameras (PolCams), which are surveillance equipment not monitored ‘live’ but whose recorded footage may be used in crime-solving.

On Sept. 25, a 26-year-old female reported being sexually assaulted at Commonwealth Cresent. Police, armed with the facial and attire description provided by the victim, conducted ground enquiries and reviewed the PolCams installed around the area.

The suspect, whose identity and movements were captured by the PolCams, was arrested shortly after.

If found guilty, he may be jailed up to two years or fined, and caned.
