Update: Gang rivals fighting over girl likely sparked Chinatown brawl: police
The police are looking for a group of people involved in a violent altercation Sunday morning in Chinatown.
Police confirmed with Coconuts Singapore today that one man was hospitalized and three people arrested after roughly 10 people were seen attacking each other, some with helmets and machetes, inside a building corridor.
They said a manhunt for the rest involved was underway, and the incident occurred in an unknown building on Upper Cross Street. According to the video circulating online today, it was filmed on the building’s 16th floor.
Police said a 19-year-old participant was taken to Singapore General Hospital.
The nearly two-minute clip opens with a group of four masked boys in black loitering in the corridor. Suddenly, a man armed with a machete bursts into view, charging toward one of them before five others behind him attack the others, swinging helmets and throwing kicks.
The only person who did not appear to engage in the fight was a woman with orange hair seen holding onto a man’s hand as he drags her through the fight in an apparent effort to escape.
