Police are currently investigating a collision that took place on Saturday evening along Pasir Ris Drive, where a personal mobility device (PMD) rider had to be hospitalized after getting crashed into by an electric scooter rider who sped through a red light.
Clearly, the e-scooter rider was in the wrong, and according to a witness, even tried to make a run for it with his posse of fellow riders. Jeremy Chiang, who caught the collision on his dash cam, said that he tried to chase after the culprit but the young man proved to be too fast. But that’s okay because the e-scooter rider ran into the view of a police camera at an HDB block.
The victim — a 27-year-old man — was taken conscious to Sengkang General Hospital. The PMD Retailers Association of Singapore made a call out to members of the public to help identify the e-scooter rider who fled the scene before the police arrived.
It bears repeating again — PMDs such as e-scooters are not allowed on roads. Under the Active Mobility Act, it’s considered an offense too if help isn’t rendered and particulars aren’t exchanged after PMD riders are involved in an accident.
