Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has taken some time off from mourning his father’s death to send his condolences to Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy over the tragic crash of Germanwings flight 4U 9525.

The plane was carrying 150 people — consisting mostly of Germans and Spanish passengers — and crashed in the French Alps on the way from Barcelona to Dusseldorf two days ago. There were no survivors.

The budget airline, owned by the Lufthansa airline company, had possessed an excellent safety record prior to the accident.

The Prime Minister expressed his immense sadness over the loss of lives and extended his deepest condolences to both the German and Spanish leaders.
