Unlike the infamous phone call between President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull (“the worst call by far”), the US leader’s conversation with our own prime minister was a lot more pleasant.

PM Lee Hsien Loong and President Trump affirmed “the deep and longstanding relationship” between their countries in a phone conversation on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). This would be the second phone call between the two leaders — the first was when Lee congratulated Trump on Dec 2 last year for landing the presidency after a contentious, dramatic election period.

According to PM Lee yesterday, he has also accepted an invitation from Trump to visit the White House, with the hopes of dropping by some time this year.

The invitation was to “further strengthen ties”, noted the White House in a statement, which also detailed the “robust security cooperation” and “thriving trade and investment” between US and Singapore.

It is unclear if President Trump will show off the tiny red button he installed in his desk in the Oval Office, which reportedly summons a butler who’ll bring him a Coke when pressed.

So far, it’s been a little more than 100 days since Trump took office — a period marked by hundreds of controversial highlights.
