After creating an embarrassing number of shameless Wordle wannabes, Singapore might just redeem itself with some localized spin-offs of the viral word game.

If you’re bored of guessing proper five-letter words, try new uniquely Singapore challenges Geodle and Word-leh! which are twists on the daily word game honoring the nation’s train system and street English.

Word-leh! launched yesterday. Made by engineer Sha-Mayn Teh, it adopts the same rules – six tries to guess five-letter words – and accepts English words as well, but the final answer will always be in Singlish.

Geodle created by Reddit user Lifth could be trickier for some as it requires visual mapping of the train system, which has more than 130 stations across nine lines, to guess the correct one. The six guesses don’t have to be five-letter words and distances in kilometers and the direction that points toward the answer will be given after every wrong answer.

As the game also includes the Light Rail Transit, or LRT stations, which may not be familiar to all, there’s another version of the game with just the MRT, or Mass Rapid Transit, stations.

Wordle swept the internet since it was created by Josh Wardle, a Brooklyn software engineer, in October. Given its wide success with millions of active players, the game was bought by The New York Times last month for an unspecified figure above US$1 million.
