As the final days of old Woodlands Town Centre dwindle away to make way for a spankin’ new regional centre, the hundreds of folks who’ve grown up wandering about the uniquely retro space are waving goodbye to the once bustling border town.

Now, the town centre is only a shadow of its former self, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority is planning to demolish the rustic quarter to build new commercial spaces and industrial clusters to accompany the upcoming Woodlands North MRT station. One of the many residents who’ll miss the neighborhood’s old school glory is none other than Hyliana Mohamed, who embarked on a nostalgic journey in her childhood hangout with a photo series on Instagram.

“I’m really upset that the only place in Woodlands that has any semblance of character is gonna be gone soon,” she wrote in a post.

“I just find it hard to accept that the shops selling cloth by the metre, the McDonald’s with the old-school orange swivel chairs, the grandest non-hotel staircase leading to the ‘underground’ shops, and all the quirks of this place will all be torn down to build more houses in an already overcrowded neighbourhood.”
