Part of Upper Changi Road East gave way at about 8:30am this morning, pulling with it a tipper truck carrying tons of what looks like construction soil.

The truck sank halfway before it stopped moving, into what is believed to be the second major cave-in observed here in recent months.

In December last year, a two-metre wide sinkhole appeared on Commonwealth Avenue. No casualties were reported, but two of the road’s lanes were closed for repair work.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has released a statement revealing that the truck driver escaped uninjured and that reintatement works and investigation are currently being conducted.

LTA also assures that the incident is not expected to impact the construction progress of the Downtown Line 3, whose work site stands at about 50 metres away from the road depression.
