Photos: Third train breakdown in 2014 + Outram Park blackout this morning

SMRT commuters were in a jam this morning at about 8am when the train service suffered a disruption on its North-South line.

Social media was rife with angry status updates and comments from frustrated passengers, many of whom waited more than the 20 minutes specified by SMRT in its statement regarding the situation.

Some passengers claim they were forced to stay put in trains that had gone stationary on inaccessible parts of the MRT track for over 45 minutes and were unable to even get to the shuttle services provided in Woodlands.

There have also been reports of a power outtage at Outram Park MRT (see top photo), though the station didn’t suffer any service delays.

The breakdowns can’t be more timely. Transitioning.org president Gilbert Goh — the mastermind behind last year’s Population White Paper protests — has called for a protest against the transport fare hike on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Hong Lim Park.
