Food League Singapore recently held its first competitive eating championship on Saturday outside Wing Zone in Buangkok, and personal trainer Zermatt Neo took home the winning title for devouring 92 chicken wings in a mere eight minutes. Then the 29-year-old apparently confessed to The Straits Times that even though it was the first time he wolfed down so many wings, he was only 40 percent full.
Neo emerged victorious over seven other competitors, although Sarah Ow — the air stewardess who’s known for accomplishing jaw-dropping feats like chomping down on 10 plates of chicken rice in less than 30 minutes and eight bowls of lor mee in just over 17 minutes — finished at a pretty close second with 88 chicken wings. In third place was Jimmy Lim with 54 wings.
As for the amateur round, 30-year-old charter pilot Zach Lee came up tops against seven other contestants — his record was 20 spicy chicken wings in five minutes.
Established last year by competitive eating enthusiast Sean Lee, who’s got a personal best of consuming 82 wantons in 12 minutes, Food League Singapore plans to organise similar events every quarter to create more interest and awareness for the activity.
