Thanks to the recent bout of hot and dry weather, crops in Johor have been affected, delaying the traditional peak season for durians by more than a month. According to Channel NewsAsia, plantation owners and suppliers said that the first batch of durians harvested in Johor has been smaller than usual, with inconsistent quality. This could filter down to consumers in the form of increased prices.
The durian season normally lasts from June to September, but sellers are expecting it to start only in July this year and extend to October, with some sourcing their durians from other parts of Malaysia like Penang.
