Pastor Kong Hee makes dramatic apology in City Harvest Church’s first service since verdict

In City Harvest Church’s first ever service since the verdict has been passed down on church founder Kong Hee and five fellow leaders, things got emotional.

The 51-year-old pastor made a dramatic display of remorse to his congregation as he took the stage and apologised for all the “pain and turmoil”, bowing repeatedly in different directions. In response, the congregation stood up and applauded for quite some time, according to various media reports.

His apology however was for putting his congregation through suffering the past few years because of their commitment to the church. No admission of guilt over his conviction of misappropriating church funds.

Kong as well as five other leaders were found guilty last week of misusing $24 million of the church’s building fund as well as over $26 million of church funds used to fuel his wife’s Pop-Reggae music career.

As the date of sentencing looms ahead, Kong assures his followers that he has absolute confidence regardless of what happens. Kong’s wife, Sun Ho — who is now Executive Director of City Harvest Church — also took the stage to thank the congregation for their undying faith in them.
