Party like it’s 2019 again, Singapore – in two weeks

The dance floors will be in for a pounding later this month when people can finally get their party on.

All nightlife businesses including nightclubs and discotheques can fully reopen April 19, the government announced today, but of course there are some caveats.

Getting in the door during a pandemic will not come easy, as only those who produce a negative Antigen Rapid Test within 24 hours will be allowed in. The test has to be supervised by approved test providers.

Mask wearing indoors and safe distancing when masks are off for eating and drinking will still be required. Currently, the capacity limit for large-scale events with more than 1,000 people has been increased to 75%.

The authorities warned that they will close any businesses breaching public health measures.

“In the event of breaches, enforcement actions will be taken under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020, and the business will be liable for the issuance of Notice of Composition (NOC) and closure order,” a joint ministry statement read.

Partying was put on hold over two years ago, driving many nightlife establishments to reopen as eateries.

Two weeks ago, Singapore made a big move by making masks optional outdoors and increasing group sizes as well as lifting land border restrictions with Malaysia.
