Formerly a simple carpooling app, Ryde now joins the ranks of bigger bros Uber and Grab in operating a third-party taxi booking service. All thanks to a lucrative partnership with the country’s biggest taxi operator, ComfortDelGro, TODAY reports.
Three years since it was first launched, Ryde and ComfortDelGro will be debuting the booking app next week — it’s a service that boasts over 45,000 vehicles, including both taxis and privately owned vehicles.
Though not quite as big as Uber or Grab, Ryde now has control of about 60 percent of the total taxi fleet in Singapore. Similar to Comfort’s own booking app, Ryde users will be able to choose between metered taxi trips and flat fare options. Their carpooling service, however, will not apply to taxis, which is a shame.
The app doesn’t even have cashless payment systems in place right now, but Ryde promises that it’ll be launching a series of new features over the next couple of weeks.
