Singapore’s rapid growth from third to first-world nation leaves a “significant section” of Singapore’s society struggling “to live comfortably in their own country”

This was People’s Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Inderjit Singh’s response to an address President Tony Tan Keng Yam gave in Parliament on May 16, championing the current Wage Credit Scheme (WCS) and Progressive Wage Model (PWM).

Mr. Singh took to Facebook to express his doubts and also to offer alternatives to the current monetary policies practised by the government.

He believes that Singapore’s widening income gap between the ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ needs to be addressed in order to benefit the well-being of all its citizens, and not just those in its top ranks.

Mr. Singh is currently overseas and unable to participate in ongoing debates on the President’s address in Parliament, and chairs the NTU Board of Trustees’ Enterprise Committee and is a co-president of the World Entrepreneurship Forum, a global organisation on entrepreneurship development.
